Celestial Sparks
Live Improvisatory Audiovisual Performance with Interactive Sequencer
Light and sound.
Brief. Brilliant. Gone.
Celestial Sparks is inspired by fireworks—bursts of color and sound that vanish as quickly as they appear. But for a moment, they fill the sky, mirrored in the eyes of those who watch.
I grew up watching fireworks over Vancouver’s harbor. Year after year, from a hill above the city, I saw the sky catch fire—on New Year’s Eve, on Canada Day, during festivals where people from different places gathered without needing to speak. No words. Just wonder.
This piece is made from that feeling. Not just of watching, but of participating. The audience becomes part of the composition—through an audiovisual sequencer that responds to touch and presence. Sounds spark. Lights flicker. The harp improvises, weaving through it all like the trace of a comet across the sky.
Fireworks don’t last. Neither does music.
But in that brief moment, something connects us—
Across borders, across time, across silence.
A spark.
Then gone.
But not forgotten.
